The Chicago area will long remember the Blizzard of 2011. One of the most important and difficult decisions of the Superintendent is to decide to close the schools. The Superintendents from District 128 (LHS) and the elementary districts of Libertyville, Hawthorne, Rondout and Oak Grove hold conference calls to help evaluate conditions and when possible make decisions together. We hold the safety of our students as our first priority and balance that with our goal to maintain the educational program whenever possible. We were fortunate with this storm to have good weather predictions. We maintained a full day on Tuesday and closed school on Wednesday and Thursday. I hope that the early notifications were helpful for your family for planning. Often we need to wait until morning, but this storm was unusual in its enormity.
I hope that your family has been safe and warm. How have you been spending you time? Did you have some adventures digging out? Did you find some fun things to do with your children? Are you ready for school to start again tomorrow? Please respond on this blog to share ideas within our community.
See you soon.

I heard an amazing story of an Oak Grove single mom who got married on February 1. They spent the unexpected holiday playing in the snow on their first day as a family!
ReplyDeleteOur street wasn't plowed until after 3:30!
ReplyDeleteWe woke up at 4:30 am to our 2 Standards wanting to go outside only to find a 4+ foot drift of snow at our back door that stretched 12 feet onto the patio and then grew in height! So, knowing that they were desperate, we fired up the snow blower and blew an 8 foot path into the driveway. Still they jumped into a 3 foot drift to do their business! For them, it was all about fun IN the snow! Sometimes it's a good idea to take a dog's perspective. :)

ReplyDeleteOur family enjoyed the precious time together without after school activities! The kids played board games, hide and seek (inside!), watched a couple of movies and even used the extra time to study for several tests coming up!
We appreciated the quick communication for the days off!

ReplyDeleteWe took advantage of the time off by making our homemade Valentine Cards early !
Dad used the snowblower and instant snow forts were made for Maggie & Kelly to enjoy while we sat outside by the fire!
We appreciated the quick communication. Thanks!
